Moeve (formerly Cepsa) announced a €600 million investment plan for the construction of up to 30 new biomethane plants by 2030.
As announced, Moeve will invest in up to 30 biomethane plants throughout Spain, with Andalusia, Catalonia, and Galicia being among the regions with the greatest potential for their deployment. The company aims to produce biomethane from agricultural and livestock waste and manage a project portfolio of 4 TWh by 2030.
Furthermore, the total production aims for the reuse of 10 million tons of waste per year and to prevent the emission of 728,000 tons of CO2 per year.
The production of renewable gases is in line with the European Commission’s REPowerEU initiative to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and CO2 emissions, as well as contribute to several of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
To remind, Repsol will also invest over €800 million in a EU backed renewable methanol project in Spain, located in Tarragona, with the capacity to process up to 400,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year and turn them into 240,000 tons of renewable fuels and circular products.
