SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2019 SAFETY4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead of the event, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping.
The online voting process has started at https://events.safety4sea.com/2019-safety4sea-awards/ where participants can cast their votes online up to 6th of September, 2019. The winners will be the ones attracted the most online votes and the results will be announced during a prestigious award ceremony, on Tuesday night 1st of October, at the Yacht Club of Greece, Piraeus, on the night before the 2019 SAFETY4SEA Athens Forum.
Nominations shortlisted for the 2019 SAFETY4SEA Awards include the following organisations per category:
SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award
- Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc. has been nominated for managing a world class fleet of Dry Bulk Carrier vessels, committed to Safety and Environmental Protection and focusing on developing a unique safety culture for all personnel ashore and on-board.
- Dockendale Ship Management has been nominated for providing high levels of personalized service with honesty, integrity, expertise and technical proficiency, and use excellent quality products and components to ensure unmatched value for customers.
- Nordic Hamburg has been nominated for being a dynamic partner and networker in the maritime industry with the goal to successfully implement various shipmanagement and shipbuilding projects, through their extensive experience, practical knowledge and global network.
- Pacific Basin Shipping Limited has been nominated for being considered as a world-leading owner and operator of modern Handysize and Supramax dry bulk ships while at the same time maintaining sound internal controls, transparency and accountability to all stakeholders.
- Zeaborn Ship Management has been nominated for being acknowledged as a globally acting dedicated ship manager, offering a comprehensive and state-of-the-art ship management product portfolio with particular focus on performance, efficiency, digitization and advanced customer care.
SAFETY4SEA Tanker Operator Award
- Cosco Shipping Tankers (Shanghai) has been nominated for its presence in shipping with zero tolerance culture for safety excellence, focusing on prevention of accidental risks and losses due to process failure and putting continuous improvement at its core of its operations.
- Fleet Management Limited has been nominated for being one of the world’s largest independent third-party ship management firms with a 24-year history, over 20,000 qualified seafarers and over 450 vessels under management. The company is headquartered in Hong Kong, ensuring vessels are kept in operational readiness and compliance.
- ITM Ltd has been nominated for consistently focusing on health, safety, quality and the environment with the aim to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all seafarers and shore based employees. ITM has developed an effective annual Health and Safety campaign to enhance the safety awareness on board the vessels.
- MINERVA MARINE Inc. has been nominated for being committed to providing ship management services of the highest quality while adding value to their stakeholders, people and the society, through a continuous improvement process towards operational, health, safety, security and environmental excellence.
- Springfield Shipping Co. has been nominated for setting as a core priority the continuous improvement of the services offered to their clients in the areas of crewing, safe and efficient vessels’ operations and environmental protection. Springfield Shipping Co. Panama S.A., is the technical manager of the Tanker fleet, located in Athens.
SAFETY4SEA Sustainability Award
- ABB has been nominated for its zero-emission technology providing a ship-to-shore battery charging connection for the Maid of the Mist passenger vessels. These will be powered entirely by high-capacity battery packs, which are charged by using hydropower, becoming the first all-electric vessels ever built in the US.
- ABS has been nominated for launching a Global Sustainability Center with a mission to help maritime transition to a sustainable, lower emissions industry. Located in Singapore, the advanced facility is the flagship of ABS sustainability activities across the globe.
- Global Maritime Forum has been nominated for contributing to a positive long term change for the industry and society. Fourteen global and prominent industry leaders are behind this foundation which actually serves as a broader platform for dialogue and collaboration between industry stakeholders.
- Green Marine has been nominated for providing an environmental certification program for the American and Canadian marine industry. It is a voluntary, transparent and inclusive initiative that addresses key environmental issues through twelve performance indicators
- Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) has been nominated for bringing together leading companies in the maritime sector to create a sustainable and successful shipping industry by 2040 addressing shipping industry’s social, environmental and economic impacts.
SAFETY4SEA Training Award
- IMCA has been nominated for its Dynamic Positioning (DP) Practitioner Accreditation Scheme which aims to set a recognized level of knowledge for DP practitioners working in the industry; and to improve the consistency, conduct and quality of DP trials, offering several benefits to accredited DP Authority.
- Hellenic Navy – NAVAL FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING and EDUCATION SYSTEM»(NAFTES) has been nominated for providing a holistic framework for the training of crew and officers in simulated fire conditions in representative ship engineering compartments.
- MAGSAYSAY Peoples Resources Corporation (MPRC) has been nominated for investing in training programs, new facilities and technology for the use of its People and for the global maritime industry. With over 65 years of experience in the shipping industry, MPRC philosophy is based on investing both in vessels and its people.
- Metropolitan College has been nominated for collaborating with Solent’s world-leading maritime academy, Warsaw School of Maritime Science and Engineering, with the aim of delivering comprehensive Naval and Maritime Education with an international perspective.
- Veritas Training Center (Member of Epsilon Group) has been nominated for making significant investments in improving the training of seafarers, i.e. from being the sole provider of DANAOS software training, to representing all major ECDIS manufacturers and installing the most recent electronic engine simulator, made by Mitsui E&S.
SAFETY4SEA Technology Award
- Kongsberg Digital has been nominated for its K-Sim Safety training simulator which integrates with KONGSBERG’s K-Sim Navigation, Engine and Cargo simulators so that crew stationed in different parts of the vessel can rehearse the vital communications procedures they would have to follow in the event of a genuine fire.
- Marlink has been nominated for its Cyber Guard portfolio, a multi-layered and hugely adaptable offering which delivers 24/7 network protection and expert support through an intelligent combination of tools, processes and cyber-threat counter-measures.
- Synergy Group has been nominated for its free and confidential chat and phone based multilingual psychological helpline ‘iCall’. The APP and helpline are potentially life-saving resources for the worldwide maritime community and are run by professional, trained counselors.
- V. Group has been nominated for its ShipSure 2.0, a unique marine digital platform, developed in-house at V.Group, which provides real-time data-driven insights, enabling V.Group’s customers to make informed decisions to strengthen all aspects of business and fleet performance.
- Crowley Maritime Corporation has been nominated for its mariner assessment program which establishes a computerized simulation environment where mariners manage both routine and unexpected circumstances encountered in bridge watch conditions. To date, Crowley has conducted nearly 2,000 simulator assessments.
SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award
- HiLo Maritime Risk Management has been nominated for providing a knowledge sharing platform enabling companies to learn from others and mitigate the risk of accidents at sea. HiLo currently analyses data from more than 3,000 vessels operated by 42 subscribers.
- Mission to Seafarers has been nominated for its WeCare programme, supported by The UK P&I Club, which aims to tackle finance-related stress among seafarers and their families, as well as the rising number of mental health issues caused by misuse of social media.
- North of England P&I Club has been nominated for launching SCORA which is an on-line Safety Culture Organisational Assessment toolk, developed in collaboration with Green Jakobsen. The tool provides an insight into any organisation’s capacity for safety, which is the ability to enhance safe work processes and safe behaviours.
- UK P&I Club has been nominated for its Lessons Learnt reflective learning video- series, focusing on a wide variety of P&I risks including personal injury, pollution, cargo claims and navigation incidents. The videos feature solutions and thought-provoking, preventative strategies to mitigate the risk of accidents.
- UK Chamber of Shipping has been nominated for the newly developed ‘Safety Culture Charter’ initiative focused on the senior management of shipowning companies with the aim to promote and adopt a positive Safety Culture within organisations, leading from the top down, ultimately reducing the number of accidents at sea.
SAFETY4SEA Personality & Leadership Awards
There are no nominees shortlisted for this Award. After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the SAFETY4SEA Team will announce the winners on the night of the awards presentation. These are special category awards for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards greener shipping throughout his/her career.
