Dr. Loukas Barmparis, President of Safe Bulkers, informed that the company is on track with its environmental investments and around 25% of its planned scrubber installations were commissioned.
Specifically, by the end of August, scrubbers were installed on 5 five ships, as part of the company’s attempt to retrofit half of its fleet with scrubbers, ahead of the 2020 sulphur cap.

In addition, 15 more ships are planned to be retrofitted with scrubbers, with five of them expected to undergo upgrades in the fourth quarter of 2019. In addition, the final scrubber installation will take place during the first quarter of 2020.
What is more, Safe Bulkers’ environmental investments also regard ballast water treatment system installations.
These installations were USD 20.5 million as of June 30, 2019, as the company informed in its financial report for the second quarter of 2019.
