PSA Mumbai has become the first container terminal in India to operate entirely on renewable energy, using a solar farm.
The 7.8MW solar farm, developed in collaboration with O2 Power, is now operational and is slated to expand to 10MW by June 2024. This solar facility is expected to cover over 75% of PSA Mumbai’s electricity requirements, with the remaining renewable power sourced from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and other providers.
Projections indicate that the solar initiative will result in an annual reduction of an estimated 16,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions, contributing to a cumulative reduction exceeding 350,000 tonnes over the facility’s lifespan.
Additionally, PSA Mumbai plans to launch e-trucks in early 2024, creating a zero-emission green transport corridor in Nhava Sheva that interconnects terminals, Container Freight Stations (CFS), and customer facilities. This collaborative effort with PSA Ameya and PSA BDP India integrates renewable power from PSA Mumbai with CFS and trucking expertise, underscoring PSA’s dedication to sustainable transportation solutions.
We are delighted to commission our solar farm and with the switch to 100% renewable power, achieve a significant reduction in our emissions. Supply chain users want greener and more sustainable transportation solutions to achieve emissions reduction targets: the successful completion of this initiative and projects such as the soon-to-be-delivered etrucks underscores our commitment to meeting those requirements.
