Fire Breaks Out on Board MT Royal Diamond 7

At Mumbai harbour The Times of India reports that a fire broke out on Saturday, March 24, on board of Korean 9500 DWT chemical tanker 'Royal Diamond 7′ at Mumbai harbour injuring seven people."At 11.25 am, the Korean owned 9500 DWT chemical tanker 'Royal Diamond 7′ reported to the Mumbai port's vessel traffic system/control station that an explosion had occurred and three crew members have been injured," Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) press statement said.Upon receipt of information about the fire, it was ensured that the victims were brought to shore and provided with necessary medical assistance. Relevant port officials, membered by deputy conservator and the harbour master of the port were sent immediately to the spot to personally see that the fire is put out and that safety is restored to the harbour.MPT officials reported that two of the injured have sustained serious injuries.Source: World Maritime News

Two arrested for ship terror strike

Alarm against an armed intruder Two crew members of the Turkish Merchant Vessel stationed at Mumbai Port, which had raised an alarm against an armed intruder were arrested on Monday. The prime accused Ibrahim Mallik Gul, 43, a crew member and Akgun Serkat, 31, captain of MV Kormel, were arrested on Monday night.The police said Gul threatened Serkat with a knife after having a heated argument. Following this, Serkat called the Mumbai Port Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) claiming that an armed intruder was threatening him and his crew members."We have questioned other crew members and we are in the process of collecting evidence from the vessel. We have also notified the Turkish embassy," said Chandrakant Naik, senior police inspector of Yellow gate police station.The police are also questioning Serkat about the nature of his distress call. "He claimed that he did not know Gul. He further said Gul was heavily armed. But when Gul was apprehended, he only had a knife in his hands," said the officer.Crew members of MV Kormel told HT that they had no idea why the duo was arguing. GAS ALERT

GAS ALERT There has been chlorine gas leak at Mumbai Port trust. The incident happened at about 3.30 am in the morning of 14 July 2010. it has affected nearly 59 persons of the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Nautical Institute and a Police Station of Siwri area. The Ministry of Shipping has sought a detailed report MPT.The incident involved leakage of chlorine gas from one of the cylinders kept at Hay Bandar area of Mumbai Port Trust. These cylinders have been kept in that area which is meant for storage of hazardous goods for the past few years. The affected persons were evacuated and have been admitted to three Mumbai hospitals Port Trust Hospital, JJ Hospital and KEM Hospital.Seven out of those admitted are in ICU but their condition is said to be stable. No death has been reported as per Deputy Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust.The records of Mumbai Port Trust mention that these cylinders were empty. Mumbai Port Trust says that it is checking its records to find out whether any action had been taken for disposal of the hazardous material in the past.The situation is presently under control, and Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Traffic Manager and other senior officials ...
