As the US Coast Guard reported, a 30-foot boat collided with Fisher Island Ferry near Miami early Sunday morning, killing one person and injuring another.
According to local news, one man was retrieved from the sea, and paramedics rushed him to Miami’s Ryder Trauma Center. However, while being carried, the individual said his companion was also on the boat and was now missing.
As a result, staff summoned the Miami dive team, which promptly initiated a search and rescue effort. The search was called off minutes later when a second man was discovered and pronounced dead on the scene.
As a result of the collision, three cruise ships’ schedules were momentarily delayed, and a temporary safety zone was established. The North and South channels of the port were initially closed, preventing some ships, especially cruise ships, from entering and loading
According to the USCG, the crews have successfully recovered the sunken vessel and removed the obstruction in the North channel.
