Japanese NYK (Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha) and Norwegian Partner Dualog have entered a partnership with the NTT Group, on a proof-of-concept experiment for a next generation onboard IoT platform.
The experiment is focused on validating the following technology, which is expected to benefit the maritime industry in actual sea operations:
- Data gathering from an expanding array of onboard sensors and monitoring equipment
- Remote distribution and management of onboard applications
- Monitoring of ship equipment, event analyses, and intelligent alerts
Through collaboration, NYK aims to create a safe and efficient onboard IoT platform, open throughout the maritime industry, in association with Class NK, DNV-GL, and ship machinery and equipment makers.
NTT will apply computing technology to the IoT platform to enable the management of applications at edge servers onboard, high-speed data exchange among a variety of different machinery, and real-time distributed processing.
Dualog will apply its technology for the maritime digital data transportation platform, which will ensure that internet, email, and cloud services work reliably and securely onboard from any satellite communications provider.
