On 16 April, a fire broke out aboard the Maltese-flagged Ro-Ro cargo vessel Delphine while it was moored at the CLdN terminal in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
The blaze ignited around 3:00 p.m. local time on one of the ship’s vehicle decks. The emergency response was swift, with firefighting teams arriving in large numbers and three tugboats supporting the efforts.
As reported, the ship’s onboard carbon dioxide fire suppression system was activated, cutting off the oxygen supply and helping contain the flames. Furthermore, all crew members have been safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The vessel’s captain remained on board to assist firefighting teams in managing the situation and monitoring the affected area.
According to the Zeebrugge Port Authority, the ship’s internal fire suppression system played a crucial role in containing the incident, however the full extent of the damage has yet to be determined.
Despite the fire, port operations continued with minimal disruption. Vessel traffic remained largely unaffected, although a nearby ship at the LNG terminal experienced a temporary delay due to safety precautions around the incident site.
