A fire aboard the bulk carrier Lowlands Diamond that began in its cargo hold on 27 January continues to burn.
The vessel berthed at the South Harbor, Dunnottar Quay, at the port of Aberdeen on 22 January. The fire broke out on 27 January in the vessel’s cargo hold with firefighters responding to help extinguish it.
The crew of the vessel are reported to be safe and the Port of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, issued a statement ensuring that the fire does not pose a threat to the wider community.
Furthermore, the Area Commander Andrew Wright, SFRS local senior officer for Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray, said it has been a “complex and unusual incident” for crews.
Emergency services also stated that they are in the process of emptying the cargo holds of the ship. Although the fire officers claimed that putting out the fire could take more days, the vessel itself and the community are safe, as the fire has been successfully isolated to one of the ship’s cargo holds.
