Valencia’s TwinShip project, co-funded by Horizon Europe, aims for port digitalization and sustainability through a digital twin framework for greener maritime operations.
As announced, the TwinShip project ‘Integrated Digital Twin Framework to Enable Green Ship Operations Towards Zero Emission Vessels’ aims to create an integrated digital framework, based on a digital twin, which will allow a greener operation of ships.
An open source digital platform will be developed that will use advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize maritime operations. One of its main goals is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the maritime industry by 30-40% by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2045, all using clean technologies and unmanned vessels as part of sustainable solutions.
In addition, Fundación Valenciaport will participate in the identification of the functional and user requirements of the decision support system and digital twins, with a particular focus from the port’s perspective, and will support in establishing the connection between the ships’ digital twin and the port’s digital twin.
Furthermore, it will collaborate in the dissemination and validation of project results.
The initiative, led by an international consortium of technology companies including the Valenciaport Foundation, has a budget of nearly 10 million euros co-financed by the Horizon Europe program.
