Cyprus’s maritime industry turns to education aiming to invest in the development of the marine sector that has placed Cyprus flag 11th biggest registry and amongst the top three ship-management hubs.
Mainly, Cyprus’s shipping field directly enforces 3% of its overall labour force, meaning 9.000 people, as stated by Deputy Shipping Minister Natasa Pilides.

Mrs Pilides continued stating that the education in Cyprus for the time being has 300 students enrolled, half of them being Cypriot. However, she supports that there should be more classes in English in order to lure more students.
In conclusion, she highlighted that Cyprus maritime schools aim to promote marine professions in order to boost shipping companies, while in the meantime plans are being conducted in order to add maritime training in the technical schools.
