The winners across the eight smart shipping categories who walked with a SMART4SEA Award were announced at a prestigious ceremony which took place on Tuesday 29th of January, 2019 at the Yacht Club of Greece, Piraeus. The awards focus exclusively on initiatives and individuals who foster Safety Excellence & Sustainable Shipping, following a combination of open nomination and audience-vote.
The winners of the 2019 SMART4SEA Awards are:
NAVTOR received the SMART4SEA e-Navigation Award, sponsored by METIS Cyberspace Technology, for its innovative complete vessel performance and passenger monitoring system as well as its Passage Planning Software Module, seeking to reduce PSC deficiencies associated with passage plan, help navigators to create compliant and accurate Passage Plan Documentation, and reduce the amount of time spent on paper shuffling. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: MarineTraffic, The Nautical Institute and Smart Navigation Project.
Marlink received the SMART4SEA Connectivity Award, sponsored by Vessel Performance Solutions, for the continuous growth of its global satellite network ‘XChange Cloud’, a digital business optimization tool providing a secure platform for the optimized transfer and synchronization of files between ship and shore, and for its Cyber Guard Suite, the company’s fully integrated Cyber Guard portfolio. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Cobham SATCOM, NSSLGlobal and Speedcast.
d’Amico Group received the SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award, sponsored by Hudson Analytix, for becoming one of the most sustainable shipping groups worldwide, with investment in an “eco-ship” newbuildings program and in the development of a very efficient Performance Monitoring system which provides ship company- specific measures for the improvement of the environmental performance of the fleet. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Eniram, Propulsion Analytics and Smart Green Shipping Alliance.
ABS received the SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award, sponsored by Arcadia Shipmanagement, for developing a new methodology to measure cyber security risk associated with operational technology, providing marine and offshore clients a calculated risk index for vessels, fleets and facilities. The index quantifies cyber security risk and gives owners and operators an actionable strategy. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: IQ Solutions, OSM OSERV and QinetiQ.
Magsaysay Maritime Corporation received the 2019 SMART4SEA Training Award, sponsored by Orpheus Marine Transport Corporation, for training investments in the last year, with a key highlight the inauguration of the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) in the Philippines aimed at providing students with real-life working environments and knowledge meeting the demands of the changing maritime industry. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: DNV GL, Frederic University and Kongsberg.
StealthGas received the SMART4SEA Technology Award, sponsored by Propulsion Analytics, for its ‘Eco Freeze’ vessel which is an LPG Carrier encompassing all latest technologies, being one of the first LPG vessels with hybrid scrubber and advanced cargo handling system. The vessel is a landmark on the field of LPG sector for the international shipping industry. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Columbia Shipmanagement, GTMaritime and Inmarsat.
Mr. Peter Broadhurst, Senior VP of Safety and Security, Inmarsat Maritime, received the SMART4SEA Personality Award, sponsored by Tototheo Maritime, for his contribution in the field of smarter shipping over the period 2016-2018, having a unique role in advancing both safety and cyber security across the maritime industry, introducing also the development and delivery of both Fleet Safety and Fleet Secure.
Mr. Mark O’Neil, President, Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd., received the SMART4SEA Leadership Award, sponsored by Macgregor, for taking initiatives to drive his organization, Columbia Shipmanagment, toward a digital and smarter future with the latest initiative being the inauguration of a high-tech Performance Optimisation Control Room in Cyprus with the view to optimize vessel performance.
