SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the 2022 GREEN4SEA Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead, where industry stakeholders proposed nominations. The aim of the awards is to recognize those organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance within the scope of fostering green and sustainable shipping.
The online voting process has started at https://events.safety4sea.com/2022-green4sea-virtual-awards/ where participants can cast their votes online up to 11th of March, 2022. The winners will be the ones attracted the most online votes and the results will be announced during the 2022 GREEN4SEA Virtual Forum, due on April 27-28.
GREEN4SEA Sustainability Award
- ABS has been nominated for launching the SIM-based Energy Efficiency Evaluation Service, using sophisticated modeling and simulation technologies to assess the impact of a wide range of vessel decarbonization technologies at the design stage as well as simplifying EEXI and CII compliance.
- American Hellenic Hull has been nominated for being a pioneer in sustainable marine insurance; among others, it is the first marine insurer to sign up to the UNEP Finance Initiative’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) and has recently become member of the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative.
- Cyprus Open Maritime Exchange Platform (C.O.M.E) – Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry has been nominated for launching the ‘Cyprus Open Maritime Exchange Platform (C.O.M.E)’ that enables continuous consultation on current maritime affairs and emerging issues in line with its new strategy, focusing on green transformation issues as well.
- RightShip has been nominated for launching the Carbon Accounting Reporting Tool for monitoring, measuring & benchmarking shipping-related GHG emissions. The user is provided with GHG summary data visualization which analyzes vessel performance, aligning with the Sea Cargo Charter methodology.
- Thome Group has been nominated for its numerous sustainability efforts. The company strives to embed sustainability in all aspects of its operations and business conduct, developing an overall sustainability framework that underpins its targeted and integrated approach to sustainability.
GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award
- Cargo Owners for Zero Emission Vessels (coZEV) has been nominated for providing a platform for collaboration that enables maritime freight customers to come together and use their brand power and economies of scale to accelerate maritime decarbonization.
- Eyesea has been nominated for taking action to map global pollution and maritime hazards. Eyesea uses technology and the support of seafarers, ship owners, managers and maritime professionals to collect and process oceanic pollution data.
- Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) has been nominated for helping the maritime industry eliminate GHG emissions by shaping standards, deploying solutions, financing projects, and fostering collaboration across sectors.
- ZeroNorth has been nominated for providing a platform that contributes to maritime decarbonization by turning data into actionable decisions that vessels can take. By doing so, ZeroNorth improves vessel performance, lowers fuel consumption and cuts the cost of compliance.
- ZESTAs has been nominated for its ‘Charging to True Zero°’, a collaborative and interactive navigational chart which was shared with COP26 delegates, shipping and energy industry stakeholders, as well as delivered to the IMO, setting the course to true zero emissions.
- DeepSea Technologies has been nominated for the launch of ‘The 10% Initiative’, an ongoing project that will help shipping companies to take tech-informed, data-driven steps towards decarbonizing their fleets and operations with the objective to reach a 10%+ efficiency improvement and savings within 12 months.
- METIS Cyberspace Technology SA has been nominated for the launch of ‘METIS Space Total Emissions Management’ that applies the power of AI to overall vessel performance, developing analytics based on actual, normalized and real-time data and ensuring compliance with IMO’s AER, CII, DCS and EU MRV.
- NanoVapor has been nominated for its ‘NanoVapor’s™ system’ that offers breakthrough technologies in the industrial management of vapors from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Their patented VOC suppression systems use nanotechnology to reduce environmental pollution related to the Gas Freeing of fuel and cargo tanks.
- The Ocean CleanUp has been nominated for its unique mission to removing plastics from oceans. The Ocean Cleanup uses advanced technologies to rid the plastics from the oceans, impacting as little as possible marine animals, protected species as well as plankton and macrofaunal communities of the areas.
- Windward has been nominated for its ‘Data for Decarbonization Program’ that creates large datasets gathered from maritime stakeholders to build AI models that will predict the carbon emissions of any vessel voyage, and support the optimisation of the whole pre-fixture process.
- BERG Propulsion has been nominated for its ‘Direct Drive Electric’ which accelerates drive into electric propulsion. Its integrated design, simplified installation and better efficiency address the pressing need to improve transition options to vessel electrification.
- MAN Energy Solutions has been nominated for providing unique retrofit options for compliance with decarbonization targets. The company presently offers multiple options for the retrofit conversion of ME-C engines and is steadily working towards being able to offer a retrofit option using ammonia as fuel.
- Silverstream Technologies has been nominated for its ‘Silverstream® System’, a fuel-agnostic solution which harnesses the power of fluid dynamics to deliver measurable fuel and emissions savings for oceangoing vessels.
- Wärtsilä has been nominated for its pilot hybrid systems with the aim to support EEXI compliance and improve CCI as well as its dual fuel engines that allow ships to be operated on either LNG or conventional liquid marine fuels, including LFO, HFO or liquid biofuel.
- WasteFuel has been nominated for launching its ‘WasteFuel Marine’, a renewable fuel solution for the shipping sector. In particular, WasteFuel Marine’s initial product will be bio-methanol for container ships.
GREEN4SEA Tanker Operator Award
- BW LPG has been nominated for taking the lead and advancing technology realizing IMO 2050 targets and a zero-carbon future. Company’s keystone project included a significant and upfront investment of US$ 130 million to retrofit 15 of its VLGCs with pioneering LPG dual-fuel propulsion technology.
- Hafnia Pte Ltd, part of BW Group, has been nominated for taking the lead, alongside BW Group’s other companies, in the product tanker industry to increase the sustainable and responsible transportation of hydrocarbons to support sustainable growth as outlined by UN SDGs.
- Kyklades Maritime Corporation has been nominated for planning towards the IMO GHG emission targets with the G4 Vessel Monitoring & Performance System (G4 KMC), designed and developed in-house as an innovative monitoring tool capable of meeting current and future GHG legislation.
- Maran Tankers Management Inc has been nominated for taking steps into changing the profile of their fleet with the latest order of dual fuel tankers. From 2016 to 2021, in total 19 energy efficient Eco VLCCs have been already delivered to the company while there are orders for more within 2023.
- Thome Group has been nominated for launching several new initiatives to reduce plastic usage onboard, in line with the company’s core values on environmental protection. Thome Group also produces many campaigns that deal with sustainability such as the ‘Thome Reusable Water Bottle Campaign’.
GREEN4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award
- Eagle Bulk has been nominated for supporting bio-bunkering that brings the company closer to its environmental targets. In 2021, the 63,529 DWT bulk carrier Sydney Eagle was bunkered with GoodFuels’ marine biofuel for the first time during its call at Terneuzen, the Netherlands.
- Eastern Pacific Shipping has been nominated for implementing a ‘No Coal Cargo Policy’, featured in its ESG report for 2022. As announced, the company has not carried coal as cargo on its commercially managed dry bulk fleet since April 2020, supporting industry’s decolonization efforts.
- ESL Shipping has been nominated for setting a clear roadmap towards fossil-free shipping with the target of net zero emissions by 2050, as announced in its first ESG strategy demonstrating further its ambition to be the industry forerunner in sustainability.
- Marla Dry Bulk Shipmanagement Inc. has been nominated for its commitment to prevent pollution, avoid disposal to the sea of environmentally damaging substances, reducing as much as possible the amount of any solvents released and fully implementing garbage management and IMO requirements.
- Norden has been nominated for being a founding signatory of the Sea Cargo Charter which establishes a common framework for reporting on shipping emissions, as well as a target to decrease of 2% in carbon emissions on an annual basis.
GREEM4SEA Personality & Leadership Awards
There are no nominees shortlisted for this Award. After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the SAFETY4SEA Team will announce the winners during the awards presentation. These are special category awards for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards greener shipping throughout his/her career.
