SAFETY4SA is pleased to announce a new survey, scheduled to run within Q1 & Q2 of 2023 that aims to shed light on key trends of wellbeing at sea. The preliminary results will be released on an ongoing basis and final reports later within 2023. This will be the 3rd survey on crew welfare as similar initiatives were conducted during 2021 and 2019.
The pandemic challenged many aspects of our well-being and marked a new era around a person’s physical, mental, and social health factors. Shipping industry had already put mental health under the microscope even before COVID-19, considering that seafarer’s work is highly demanding. However, today we are talking about a holistic approach of well-being as we have shed focus not only on seafarers’ mental health but also seafarers’ physical health and social life onboard and overall, on seafarers’ happiness.
There are many factors that can improve the quality of life onboard and ensure a happier crew. With that in mind, SAFETY4EA launched the SEAFiT Crew Survey (including Wellness & Well-being elements) as an industry initiative to identify trends, provide feedback to all industry stakeholders and provide a roadmap for embracing a new well-being mindset on an organizational and industry level.
With the 2023 survey, we aim to assess life and work onboard with the SEAFiT Index, a crew welfare index that provides a picture of how welfare issues are perceived and implemented onboard. Furthermore, the survey aims to address key aspects of the physical, mental and social well-being and assist maritime stakeholders in setting priorities around these topics.
The survey is anonymous and will be conducted via an online landing page with questionnaire requiring less than ten minutes to complete by seafarers sailing with the ships and those currently ashore.
‘SEAFiT’ is a new service that aims to ensure that mental health & wellbeing becomes a global priority for all maritime stakeholders. It provides comprehensive guidance to ship organizations to evaluate the mental health state of both their shore and sea staff and raise mental health awareness across their organizations, ensuring that mental health policies are in place and that their corporate culture aligns with wellbeing needs.
The SURVEY IS FULLY ANONYMOUS AND TAKES 10 MINUTES TO COMPLETE
