Environment Agency and IEMA offer new best practice guide
The Environment Agency and the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) launch a best practice guide designed to help sustainability executives develop effective climate change adaptation strategies.
The 14-page guide, entitled Climate Change Adaptation: Building the Business Case, was developed as part of the government-funded Climate Ready initiative, which aims to ensure businesses are bolstering their resilience to extreme weather events that are likely to become more frequent as a result of climate change.
The project commenced in January 2013, with workshops to understand key learning points from practice. A webinar followed along with individual telephone interviews exploring issues in more detail. Around 300 IEMA members were involved.
The guide features a series of case studies and best practice advice, detailing how to build business support for climate adaptation measures, undertake effective climate risk assessments, and identify “early mover” opportunities that are available to those firms that enhance the resilience of their operations and supply chains.
