China has established its first international ship registry in Hainan province, aiming to further develop the island into a free trade port.
The Hainan International Ship Registration Administration, launched in Yangpu, Danzhou, will oversee for the registration, quality management, inspection, flag state services, and policy research for vessels flagged under the China Yangpu Port registry according to local news. The administration is a division of the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport.
Cai Yinghong, the new administration’s inaugural director, said the administration will operate under the principles of “convenient service, standardized management, and internationalized development”, aiming to provide efficient, convenient, and high-quality registration services to both domestic and international vessels.
To remind, according to the “Comprehensive Plan for the Establishment of a New Integrated Sea and Land Corridor” of the Chinese State Committee for Development and Reform, by 2035, this port will become a key point for the distribution of goods from various regions of the country to Southeast Asia and Oceania, Europe and Northern America.
By 2025, Yangpu is expected to become a major regional transport hub with an annual flow of up to 5 million containers.
