Bureau Veritas contributed to the Net Zero Initiative project, which is headed by Carbone 4, a French consulting agency for energy and climate issues.
The project is supported by ADEME, the French Agency for Ecological Transition; the French government’s Ministry of Ecological Transition; and about twenty businesses.
Between September 2021 and June 2022, Bureau Veritas has co-written the 10 principles that aim to define the basis for a corporate climate strategy. This strategy will be rigorous and ambitious, and it will be based on science and aligned with Paris Accord objectives.
The signatories of these principles encourage all organizations regardless of size and sector, to put these principles into practice to build an efficient climate strategy.
At BV, sustainability has been at the heart of our mission for nearly 200 years, through our expertise in health, safety, quality and environmental protection
The Net Zero Initiative project, initiated in June 2018, published its carbon neutrality contribution framework for organizations in April 2020. This document proposes a common language for all actors wishing to steer their climate action in a sincere, ambitious and transparent way towards achieving global net zero emissions, and in line with existing instruments and methodologies.
The three pillars for contribution
Companies must maximize their contribution to reducing emissions and increasing global sinks by acting on three levers in parallel:
- Reducing their direct and indirect footprint by following a 1.5°C compatible trajectory;
- Helping others to reduce their emissions, through the sale of decarbonized products and services and the funding of emissions avoidance projects outside their value chain;
- Removing carbon from the atmosphere through sinks, both in and out of their value chain.
