Avenir Ascension is set to make history as the first bunker vessel worldwide to continuously operate on bio-LNG for an entire year.
According to Avenir LNG, beginning 31 March, the vessel will use 100% bio-LNG for its propulsion throughout 2025, a move that will significantly reduce carbon emissions by over 3,500 tons annually—the equivalent of the yearly emissions of more than 2,000 passenger vehicles.
To further demonstrate our commitment to more sustainable marine fuels, we have elected to run the Avenir Ascension on bio-LNG on a voluntary basis for 2025, making a positive statement alongside our customers to reduce emissions well beyond existing regulatory requirements.
… said Jonathan Quinn, Managing Director of Avenir LNG, and also highlighted the growing market demand for low-emission fuels.
Since 2022, Avenir LNG has been operating bunker supply vessels in Northwest Europe, supplying LNG and bio-LNG to marine customers and terminals. The company primarily serves ferries, container vessels, and product tankers in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea region.
