On December 30, 2024, at approximately 10 PM (Singapore Time), a collision occurred between two bulk carriers in the Yangtze River, China.
As informed by MPA Singapore, the Singapore-flagged Yangze 22 and Japan-flagged Vega Dream were involved in the incident, but no injuries to crew members on either vessel were reported. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed the event on December 31.
Yangze 22 sustained hull damage and spilled approximately nine metric tonnes of fuel oil. The vessel is now anchored at Hengsha East Anchorage for damage assessment. Cleanup efforts, coordinated by the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) and supported by Yangze 22’s company, are underway. The MSA has assured that the situation is under control.
Both vessels remain stable, and the MPA is in communication with the ship management company of Yangze 22 and the Shanghai MSA to provide assistance.
The MPA has also launched an investigation into the collision.
