Spanish Baleària announced its new eco-efficient fast ferry ‘Eco Aqua’ has started operating on the Eivissa-Formentera route, after carrying out the docking tests in both ports, on 25 December.
The Eco Aqua is the first eco fast ferry of a series of four, which the Baleària is building in the Gondan shipyards of Asturias, to operate on the Eivissa-Formentera line. It is expected for the rest ones to be incorporated into the line during 2018.
This vessel is powered by latest generation engines that minimize polluting emissions, incorporates 24 photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the upper deck for the supply of services on board and its hull is polyester reinforced with fiberglass, which is more ecological by not requiring the application of paint.
In line with its environmental commitment, the company is working on a social responsibility project for the four ships, named after the four elements that make up nature according to the classics: Eco Aqua, Eco Terra, Eco Air and Eco Lux.
