Women leaders from Southeast Asia’s maritime sector recently completed a comprehensive IMO training course focused on green shipping technologies and digitalization.
The 10-day program, held during the 2024 Korea Maritime Week, saw 18 participants—5 executive-level and 13 management-level officials—enhancing their skills in these critical areas. Organized by the IMO in collaboration with South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, this initiative is part of the SMART-C Women Project.
Funded by the Republic of Korea, the project aims to promote gender equality by boosting the skills and job opportunities for female maritime professionals in developing countries, particularly within ASEAN and Pacific regions.
The training covered various subjects, including women’s leadership, work-life balance, personal branding, and maritime digitalization. Participants engaged in practical visits to notable institutions like the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and attended the 2024 Korea Maritime Week and the WIMA Asia Regional Conference.
