The US Coast Guard announced that the Lower Mississippi River between mile markers 126 and 131 has been closed to navigation following a collision between two towing vessels and their barges.
The Coast Guard is working with state & local agencies and the responsible party to recover one capsized barge carrying caustic soda in an effort to reopen waterways.
There have been no reports of caustic soda entering the water.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the incident is under investigation
