The US navy decided an operational pause of it fleet around the world, to review navigational safety issues, after the fatal collision of the US warship John S McCain that resulted in ten missing and five injured sailors.
“This is the second collision in three months and the last in a series of incidents in the Pacific theater. This trend demands more forceful actions,” said Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson.
The one-day pause is expected to provide a comprehensive review of the route causes and contributing factors of the incident, is in addition to the investigations of the USS Fitzgerald collision in June, that caused death of seven sailors.
The Navy plans to examine the process of training and certification of naval forces, including navigational and bridge operations proficiency.
