The American Petroleum Institute released the third edition of API Recommended Practice 1160 (RP 1160), ‘Managing System Integrity for Hazardous Liquid Pipelines,’ on February 27. RP 1160 provides a process for ensuring safe pipeline operations, including robust assessments of potential risks and establishment of systems to safely and efficiently manage them during day-to-day operations.
The third edition of RP 1160 includes industry experience regarding pipeline mechanics, while it also provides a proactive approach to safe pipeline operation. This aims to assist pipeline operators build a safe and comprehensive integrity management system.

The document also contains references to industry publications, like pipeline leak detection (API RP 1175), assessment and management of cracking in pipelines (API RP 1176), integrity data management and integration (API RP 1178), and hydrotechnical hazards for pipelines that are onshore or within coastal areas (API RP 1133).
Commenting on the new document, Debra Phillips, vice president of Global Industry Services (GIS) said that:

She also added that natural gas and oil provide the energy consumers need, and US’s energy infrastructure.
