UK Maritime and Coast Guard Agency issued a marine notice to inform owners, ship operators and managers about the latest updates on approved ship recycling facilities.
In fact, the main purpose of the marine notice is to publish the United Kingdom List of approved Ship Recycling Facilities as required by the UK Ship Recycling Regulations and referred to in Section 6 of MGN 633 Amendment 1.

According to MCA, the circular should be read in conjunction with the following:
- MGN 633 Amendment 1 – Ship Recycling: Requirements in relation to Hazardous Materials on Ships (Amendment etc.) Regulations 2018
- The Ship Recycling (Requirements in relation to Hazardous Materials on Ships) (Amendment etc) Regulations (SI) 2018 No.1122
- The Ship Recycling (Facilities and Requirements for Hazardous Materials on Ships) (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (SI 2019/277)
- The Ship Recycling (Facilities and Requirements for Hazardous Materials on Ships) (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations (SI) 2020 No.1429 (2020 EU exit Regulations)
To remind, from 1st January 2021, it has been a requirement for UK ships to be recycled at a facility which is on the UK list. For the records, the list will be periodically updated as required.
As explained, the UK List is set out in the Annex attached to this marine notice above, and is structured in 2 parts as follows:
- Part A – UK facilities
- Part B – Non-UK facilities which are on the European List
