EU Regulation 1177/2010 on maritime passenger rights
To encourage economic growth through trade and travel the UK Department for Transport is working to encourage commercial development by ports, effectively regulating vessels in the UK’s waters and improvingmaritime security and safety, including search and rescue capabilities. UK Department for Transport issued draft guidance notes regarding EU Regulation 1177/2010 on maritime passenger rights.
The guidance documents are intended to provide general information onthose provisions within EU Regulation 1177/2010 concerning therights of passengers when travelling by sea and inland waterway that relate to theobligations of carriers (i.e. cruise and ferry operators) and port terminal operators. The department welcomes feedback from interested parties on these documents.
The guidance notes are not intended as an article by article interpretation ofthe EU Regulation, they are however intended to provide an overview of the keyprovisions to assist passengers in understanding their rights and to provide details ofwhere passengers can obtain further information and assistance.
