Concerning Libyan ports, Standard P&I Club has already highlighted to ship operators that the situation remains extremely unstable. In the meantime, Al Jazeera referred to a new potential threat against Turkish flagged ships that call Libyan Ports.
Firstly, Standard Club informed that Farwah, Bouri, Melittah, Zawia, Tripoli, Al Khoms, Misurata, Es Sider, Ras Lanuf, Marsa El Brega, Zuetina, Benghazi, Tobruk and Marsa El Hariga are still operating, whereas Sirte and Derna are closed.
In addition, as Al Jazeera reported, Khalifa Haftar is a Libyan warlord in control of the ‘Libyan National Army’ (LNA) and has been involved in various rebel insurgencies against the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).
Moreover, the agency informed that Haftar ordered his forces to attack Turkish ships and interests in Libya. This follows Turkey’s support of the GNA who retook Gharyan, a strategic town just south of Tripoli, from Haftar’s LNA.
Those members with Turkish flagged ships should exercise caution when undertaking voyages to Libyan ports. We have been advised that particular care should be taken when calling at East Libyan ports, where there is an increased risk of danger.
