Three men were injured after a pipe burst onboard the cutter suction dredge ‘C.R. McCaskill’, while the vessel was operating off the coast of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, in the afternoon hours of Monday.
According to data provided by local media, the three men were conducting works on the stern of the dredge, when the 16 inch pipe ruptured, causing them non-life-threatening injuries.
Several units responded to the incident. The men were evacuated and transferred to the Manasquan Inlet’s Coast Guard Station in Point Pleasant Beach.
Initial eyewitness reports suggested that an explosion had occurred, due to the magnitude of the blast, but authorities later confirmed this was not the case.
The cause of the pipe rupture is yet to be determined and an investigation is underway.
