Global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, mostly rely on improvements regarding energy efficiency and increased uptake of low-carbon technologies.
Funded by the European Union and implemented by IMO, the Global MTCC Network (GMN) initiative unites technology centres, such as Maritime Technologies Cooperation Centres (MTCCs), in targeted regions into a global network. Their aim is to promote technologies and operations to improve energy efficiency in the maritime sector and help navigate shipping into a low-carbon future.
The MTCCs focus on technical co-operation, capacity building and technology transfer. Developing countries and, in particular, Least Developed Countries and Small Islands Developing States, will be the main beneficiaries of this initiative.
