7 crew still missing Two cement clinker laden lighterage vessels capsized at the outer berth in Kutubdia channel on midnight of Monday after collision with mother vessel MV Ramshir.There were 2,700 metric tons of clinkers in the capsized vessels, port sources said. Out of total 26 sailors of the two vessels, 19 were rescued and 7 still missing till writing this report.Port sources said these lighterage vessels MV Titu-21, MV Titu-22 were moving towards Munshigonj with clinker.At that time another mother vessel MV Ramshir collided with these lighterage vessels and left the vessels sank. At the same incident MV Titu-16 also affected with collision. Immediate after sinking, 19 sailors were rescued by another lighterage vessel.Port authority rescue team, coast guard and naval forces vigorously searching the missing crews from early morning yesterday but yet to be traced. Guilty to using unsafe commercial yachts At Southampton Crown Court on Friday 4th February 2011, two commercial yacht operators pleaded guilty to using unsafe commercial yachts on trans-Atlantic voyages when carrying students signed up for RYA training courses.Two separate operators, George Haworth of In2Sail Ltd and Colin Thomas of Straits Sailing had taken advantage of the growth in demand for trans-Atlantic sail training. Both used the internet to sell training courses for those wanting to go from novice to Yachtmaster Ocean. They ran inclusive costly courses but did not have vessels equipped to the minimum levels of lifesaving equipment. It was shown that George Haworth had sent students on a voyage from Cowes to St Lucia with a skipper that was not properly qualified on a yacht that had only the basic equipment to operate no more than 60 miles from a safe haven. The yacht Quay Three had only one valais liferaft stowed in a locker and the only means of distress alerting was by a VHF radio (of limited range) and an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon). The crew is reported to have been rescued A Singapore-registered asphalt tanker was reported to have sunk off the east coast of Pulau Bintan, Indonesia this afternoon.The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said today it was informed that the ship "AB9" was listing about 3.10pm, and subsequently sank about 5pm.At the time of the incident, the vessel was reported to be on her way from here to Sumbawa, Indonesia, MPA said.There were 14 crew, all Thai nationals, on board the tanker. All the 14 crew returned safe A lighter vessel carrying 1200 tonnes of cement clinker sank in the bay water at the outer anchorage of the maritime port Saturday morning.All the 14 crew of the capsized clinker carrier Manik Mia-2 returned safe to the shore with the help of the lighter that hit it, the port officials said, adding they had advised other ships to operate cautiously through one part of the channel until position of the sunken ship was located.Clinker laden Manik Mia-2 was hit by lighter ship Abdullah al Asif-1 near the Bravo (B) Anchorage of Chittagong Port at around 9.00 am. Earlier, the victim ship loaded cement clinker from a mother vessel at the outer anchorage.
