Imports at the US’s major retail container ports are forecast to see their final increase of the year this month ahead of new tariffs, that will be implemented in December, according to the Global Port Tracker report. US ports covered by Global Port Tracker handled 1.87 million TEUs in September.

The Jaxport has been awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, with a $20 million grant, to reconstruct more than 100 acres of the existing terminal pavement at the SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal. The funding came through the $238 million plan between Jaxport and their close partner SSA Marine.

On Monday, October 21, the CEO of South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA), Jim Newsome, gave his State of the Port Address highlighting that the underlining vision for the SCPA is to be the preferred port of the top 10 U.S. container ports.

Imports at US’s major retail container ports are expected to reach their highest level of the year again next month, just before more tariffs apply in December, according to the Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

Columbia River Steamship Operators’ Association, representing owners in oceangoing shipping, is suing the US Port of Astoria over its decision to introduce a $300 harbor fee charged to passing vessels. A suit was filed Friday in US District Court in Portland.

The US Port of Oakland announced it saw a 20% increase in its refrigerated export volume in the past year, handling 119,756 TEUs of refrigerated exports from August 2018 through July 2019, which was up from 99,740 in the same period a year ago.

Sharing figures for the month of August, the US Port of Long Beach said it saw the fifth-busiest August in its 108-year history, handling a total of 663,992 TEUs. However, this represents a 2.3% decrease in its cargo movement compared to August 2018. 

According to the monthly Global Port Tracker, issued by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates, imports at US retail container ports will keep being at record levels this month, despite the trade tension between China and the US.

Enterprise Products Partners and Chevron US. Inc., announced long-term agreements, aiming to support the development of Enterprise’s Sea Port Oil Terminal in the Gulf of Mexico. Enterprise’s SPOT project includes onshore and offshore facilities, such as a fixed platform located around 30 nautical miles off the Brazoria County, Texas.

The US Department of Transportation announced $855,950,000 in proposed grants through the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) discretionary grant program. The list of grants includes $8.04 million for the PortMiami to rehabilitate and create new capacity on the Seaboard Marine Terminal.
