Thenamaris has partnered with Navarino to deploy the high-speed, low-latency Starlink LEO service across most of its fleet.
Starlink implementation aims to improve crew welfare through enhanced connectivity, with each vessel operating on a 1 TB plan primarily consumed by crew networks. This has enabled high-quality video calls, enhancing communication with families.
To remind, the 2023 SEAFiT Crew survey, which is the largest survey on crew welfare conducted world- wide with the participation of 1.6K ships and 19K seafarers, revealed that the internet is crucial for crew welfare, with 91% expressing a need for high-quality internet access to maintain connections and communicate with loved ones.
As a follow up on this key finding, SAFETY4SEA has launched the SAFETY4SEA petition, asking industry stakeholders to join the cause for free Internet at sea. You can sign the petition here.
Additionally, Thenamaris’ business operations have benefited, with improved support for remote inspections and workstations through the integrated IT and OT setup onboard.
George Tsivgoulis, Electrical Supervisor in Thenamaris Technical department, noted Starlink’s contribution to fleet digitalization, enhancing operational efficiency through faster speeds and reduced latency. Meanwhile, Andreas Dimitriadis, Strategic Relations Director at Navarino, expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasizing the enhancement of connectivity services and operational capabilities.
Thenamaris is one of the largest Greek ship operators, with a diversified fleet of 47 tankers, 25 bulk carriers, 8 LNG carriers and 7 LPG carriers.
