During UN's Climate Action Summit in New York, the UN Global Compact launched the UN Sustainable Ocean Principles, providing a base for responsible business practices across sectors, in line with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

A global movement of 87 companies have joined forces on the 'Business Ambition for 1.5°C — Our Only Future' campaign,  promising to scale up their climate ambitions by setting science-based targets aligned with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Maersk and Port of Antwerp, supported by IAPH, announced a new joint initiative, called 'The Getting to Zero Coalition', aiming to a commercially viable zero-emission vessel industry for ships operating along deep sea trade routes by 2030.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 33% of the world’s fish resources are overfished, while around 60% are fished at maximum biologically sustainable levels.

Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg sailed into New York Harbor on Wednesday after a 14-day journey from UK on a zero-carbon emissions vessel, to join a United Nations climate summit to take place in late September.
