Half of the offshore section for the TurkStream Offshore Gas Pipeline has been installed. Namely, over 930 kilometer of pipeline has been laid in total on the seabed of the Black Sea, divided over two strings. Pioneering Spirit, the vessel conducting deep-water sections of the pipeline, passed kilometer point 706 for the first line.

Turkey deployed its second floating liquefied natural gas unit at a port in Dortyol, Hatay , which is located in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. The FSRU has 20 million cubic meters of send-out capacity per day. This FSRU has 263,000 cubic meters of LNG storage capacity, which is the largest in the world.

Hapag-Lloyd informed that it will recycle seven containerships, complying with environmental regulations, in certified shipyards. Namely, Hapag-Lloyd is currently having seven older container ships, with a capacity of 4,101 TEU, which are being recycled in Turkey and China. The respective shipyards are especially equipped and certified to recycle ships in an environmentally friendly manner.

Gazprom received a permit to lay the second string in the exclusive economic zone and territorial waters of Turkey and has all of the required permits from the Turkish Government. Both strings of the gas pipeline will be put into operation before the end of 2019.

South Stream Transport has officially announced the start of construction of the receiving terminal of the TurkStream Offshore Gas Pipeline. With the start of the onshore construction in Turkey, the project is now being implemented in three construction areas: onshore Russia, onshore Turkey and offshore Black Sea.

The work for this project, the Kanal Istanbul, which links the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara west of the Bosphorus, will begin this year, the Turkish government said, adding that the project will be funded with public and private partnerships.

According to Turkey's latest amendments, which were brought into effect in April 2017, heavy fines will imposed by the authorities including the Environmental Protection Agency, Harbour Master and Public Prosecutor against the offending vessels and Masters.

Turkish ports, marine agents, operators and ship owners are officially informed that ships arriving from Crimea and its ports are not allowed to enter the country, and no permit will be given if a ship is calling or has called at these ports.

The Panama Maritime Authority issued a notice last month to warn that vessels cannot enter the Ports of Famagusta, Karavostasi and Kyrenia, as per order by the Republic of Cyprus. The country has taken restrictions in order to uphold and maintain its sovereignty.

The Turkish-flagged 'Bilal Bal' had reportedly sent a distress signal in the early hours of November 1st, while plying in the Black Sea and before disappearing approximately seven nautical miles off the coast of Sile, Istanbul.
