International Transport Intermediaries Club recently settled a dispute between a ship owner and its Turkish agent for losses arising from the refusal of Turkish port authorities to allow a vessel to berth because of its connection to Cyprus.

Qatargas LNG company announced the signing of a sales and purchase agreement with Turkish BOTAŞ Petroleum Pipeline Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement, Qatargas will deliver 1.5 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas per annum for three years.

The dry cargo vessel "Leonardo" has split at two while anchored in the Black Sea, off Turkey’s northwest coast, in early hours of August 27. The 11 crewmen were rescued.

ClassNK has issued a Statement of Compliance to a ship recycling facility in Izmir, Turkey, verifying that the facilities are in line with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009. This marks the first time a SoC has been issued to ship recycling facilities in Turkey.

Russian Gazprom announced that it started laying the TurkStream gas pipeline in the deep-water area off the coast of Anapa. TurkStream is the project for a transit-free export gas pipeline stretching across the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey. Each of the two strings of the gas pipeline will have a throughput capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Desgagnés has taken delivery of the M/T Damia Desgagnés, a new vessel recently completed in Turkey. The vessel is the first dual-fuel powered Canadian-flagged tanker and the first-ever asphalt carrier of this type, build according to an original concept developed by Desgagnés and ordered at the Besiktas shipyard located in Turkey.

Turkey is the sixth country to ratify the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, following Norway, Congo, France, Belgium and Panama. It has been reported that also Denmark plans to ratify the Convention within 2017.

Rolls-Royce recently announced that they will supply MTU diesel engines for six new search and rescue vessels to be built by Damen Shipyards and operated by the Turkish Coastguard.

In Turkish waters, environmental protection is developing and significant fines are applicable to vessels that violate Turkish anti-pollution regulations in accordance with the Turkish Environmental Code. The Metropole Maritime & Trading Ltd. Co. issued recommendations on the foresaid updated fines.

South Stream Transport B.V. has awarded the Swiss-based Allseas Group S.A. a contract to lay the first line of the TurkStream offshore gas pipeline in the Black Sea, with an option for laying the second line.
