Ro-pax 'Fior Di Levante' has plugged into the first shore power facility in the eastern Mediterranean at Killini port in an inauguration ceremony on December 20, 2018. The cold ironing facility was developed within a European co-funded programme to allow the port of Killini in Greece to limit air pollution, while paving the way for other Greek ports to become emissions-free hubs in the eastern Mediterranean region.

Greece's Port of Killini, at the west side of the country towards the Ionian Sea, is to see the first shore-to-ship (STS) electrical supply connection in Eastern Mediterranean. The Ro-pax ferry 'Fior Di Levante' will plug into the region's first shore power facility , in a special inauguration ceremony on Thursday, 20th December.

The Port of Vancouver has completed a shore power facility, which will enable ships to shut down their diesel engines and connect to an electrical grid supplied by renewable energy sources. The Shore Power Technology for Ports program, Canada and the Port of Vancouver have contributed $3.5 million to the Centerm project, for a total investment of $7 million.

On 25 October, the European Parliament adopted its report on 'The deployment of infrastructure for alternative fuels in the EU', revealing that taxation has a major impact on the price competitiveness of alternative fuels and underlining the need to address disparities in energy taxation for shore-side supply for ships and energy used to generate alternative fuels.

The construction of the first onshore power supply plant for commercial vessels in the Port of Kiel has started. As of spring 2019, big cruise ferries will be able to be supplied with the electrical power they need during the time they are berthed in Kiel.

Voting the Ertug report, the Transport committee of the European Parliament pointed out that taxation has a major impact on the price competitiveness of alternative fuels and underlined that disparities in energy taxation for shore-side supply for ships should be addressed.

Port of Bergen will build Europe’s largest onshore power supply in Norway’s largest cruise port. The aim is for the facility to be ready at the beginning of the cruise season in 2020. The shore power facility will be able to supply three cruise vessels with power simultaneously.

The Copenhagen Malmö Port responded to media reporting that it has rejected an offer to receive a shore power facility for free. The port said that these reports are not true, explaining that there will be significant establishing and operating costs. CMP said that it is in dialogue with a Danish utility company regarding a more efficient solution.

The Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, AIDA Cruises and Rostock Port signed a letter of intent to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable cruise shipping on the Rostock. The agreement includes the construction of a shore power plant in Rostock-Warnemünde by 2020. 

The Indian Ministry of Shipping issued the Draft of its proposed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) exploring shore power supply to ships in Indian ports, under the national "Green Port" project seeking to reduce air and noise pollution on major ports across India.
