The Port of Vancouver, Washington, reached a new record with the delivery of the largest wind turbine blades to ever cross the pier of a US West Coast port.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and the Tomakomai Port Authority joined forces to promote the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel and provide LNG bunkering services at the Port of Vancouver and Port of Tomakomai.

The video, published by Canada's Port of Vancouver, points out the latest progress made at the Centerm Expansion Project and South Shore Access Project, aimed to help meet anticipated near-term demand for containers shipped through the Port. The projects are expected to be complete by 2022.

Last month, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority-led Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Program celebrated its five years of collaboration and research to better understand the effects of marine shipping on at-risk whales.

The Port of Vancouver announced that its 33rd cruise season will come to an end on November 1, with the final cruise ship departing from Canada Place terminal at the Port of Vancouver; The port informs that the 2020 cruise ship season will start again on 2 April, 2020.

To help mitigate the increased need for LNG in the maritime sector, the British Columbia government is joining the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and FortisBC to create the first ship-to-ship LNG marine bunkering service on the west coast of North America.

Terry Beech, the Canadian Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Burnaby North - Seymour, on behalf of Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announced that the Government of Canada is investing more than $300,000 in two projects at the Port of Vancouver to strengthen its transportation system and better prepare for climate change and extreme weather events.

As part of its investments to improve transportation infrastructure, the Government of Canada announced an investment of $20 million to increase rail capacity near Abbotsford resulting in a significant increase in overseas trade to and from terminals in the Port of Vancouver.

A malfunction in the fumigation hatch caused an explosion onboard the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier 'Minoan Glory' while anchored off Vancouver, in the early afternoon hours of 6 August. There was a lot of sound and fury, but there were no injuries. 

As part of its efforts to support jobs and economic growth, the Government of Canada announced a major investment of $102 million for five projects aimed to increase efficiency at the Port of Vancouver and move Canadian goods to international markets.
