In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and continuity, the Oil Companies and International Marine Forum (OCIMF) announced the suspension of all audits for the year 2020. Therefore, OCIMF decided to suspend all SIRE (Cat-1 and Cat-3) audits, SIRE and OVID refresher courses and new-inspector courses for the year 2020.

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) published an updated edition of its Offshore Vessel Management and Self Assessment (OVMSA) programme, in a bid to align with current legislation, expectations and emerging risks.

In July 2018, OCIMF issued the fourth edition of its Mooring Equipment Guidelines (MEG4) to update related guidelines and include new chapters on Human Factors in Mooring Design, Jetty Design and Fittings, Ship Shore Interface and Alternative Technologies.

Maritime trade between Arctic destinations and the rest of the world is expected to grow and an increasing number of ships are now conducting voyages in polar waters. For this reason, new joint guidelines from the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) aim to support shipping companies by providing advice on how to develop a Polar Water Operational Manual (PWOM).

During the last SAFETY4SEA Athens Forum, Mr. Rod Lingard, the Club Manager of Hellenic Mutual War Risks Association (Bermuda) Limited, looked at key war risks trends, including sanctions and the recent advice from OFAC on sanctions compliance programmes; developments in the Arabian Gulf; the status of piracy in both the Gulf of Guinea and the Western Indian Ocean.

OCIMF published the second edition of its Guidelines on the Marine Assessment of F(P)SOs. The new guidelines establish a framework for assessing the marine sections of Floating (Production) Storage and Offloading (F(P)SO) facilities, in order to comply with international legislation and industry best practice.

Shipping associations have called on ship owners to inform Britain’s navy of their movements before sailing into the Strait of Hormuz because of the escalating crisis in the region. BIMCO, ICS, INTERTANKO and OCIMF published guidance for vessels that sail through the Arabian Gulf (AG), Straits of Hormuz (SoH) and Gulf of Oman (GOO).

Following the attacks that took place near the port of Fujairah and the Gulf of Oman, OCIMF presents measures to be implemented and guidance so that the crew and the vessels are safe when sailing through the spiked area.

Following the attacks against two tankers in the Gulf of Oman, the US Secretary of State, Michael R. Pompeo, provided interviews commenting that the US is considering a military response after the attack, with the goal of protecting the area and the vessels operating there. 

Following the two suspected attacks against tankers transiting the Gulf of Oman Thursday, INTERTANKO and OCIMF noted that these attacks appears to have been well-planned and coordinated and recommended operators to review associated BMP5 guidance.
