SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that The North of England P&I Club has received the 2019 SAFETY4SEA Initiative Award at a prestigious award ceremony which successfully concluded on October the 1st at Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, the evening ahead of the SAFETY4SEA Conference.
While the voting procedure for the 2019 SAFETY4SEA Awards is open, Simon MacLeod (Deputy Director – Loss Prevention) for North P&I Club tells a few words about SCORA, a safety culture tool for which the Club has been nominated for the Initiative Award. This tool aims to enhance performance in five key safety areas: Safety Leadership, Health and Wellbeing, Risk Management, Learning and Development and Safety Reporting.
As the North P&I Club informs, it is well known that in most places around the world the presence of pilot on the bridge does not relieve the Master or officer in charge of the watch from their duties or obligations for the safety of the ship. However, there are many cases where the Master appears to relinquish control to the pilot or fails to challenge a possible unsafe instruction, sometimes leading to an incident.
North P&I Club announced the launch of a self-assessment tool for owners and operators to assess and improve their safety performance. Developed in conjunction with leading safety consultancy Green-Jakobsen, the SCORA seeks to enable operators to measure their organisational capacity for safety, both onboard and ashore.
The Republic of Marshall Islands issued a marine notice, setting out the revised requirements for hot work, including all ships, not just tank ships and combination carriers. Hot Work involves sources of ignition or temperature sufficiently high enough to cause the ignition of a flammable gas mixture.
