INTERCARGO published its Bulk Carrier Casualty Report, reporting that 21 bulk carriers of more than 10,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) were reported lost, with the tragic loss of 89 seafarers’ lives,  for the years 2014-2023.

At least one seafarer aboard the bulk carrier TUDOR lost their life after the vessel sustained a dual attack from Yemen's Houthis, resulting in damage to the stern.

A search and rescue operation for 11 crew members of a sunken fishing trawler in the Atlantic Ocean about 34 nautial miles from the nearest coastal land area has been called off, with an investigation of the incident now underway, said the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).

On May 1, 2024, at the Baltimore Key Bridge incident site, the Unified Command recovered the fifth body of another missing victim.

On 2nd April, crews created a second temporary passage, enabling a restricted amount of maritime traffic to navigate around the damaged remains of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge. The bridge had been obstructing the primary shipping route of the crucial port for a week following its collapse.

According to Reuters, on 1st April, the port of Baltimore opened a temporary channel, allowing the release of some tugs and barges previously stranded due to the bridge collapse last week. However, officials noted that broader efforts to restore commercial shipping were still hindered by persistent challenges.
