On August 5th, a Suez Canal tugboat sank after colliding with an LPG tanker, resulting in the death if one of the tugboat’s crew members and injuring six others.
ix of the seven crew members were rescued from the submerged tug boat and taken to the hospital, according to international news. Furthermore, as a result of the accident, northbound traffic was briefly disrupted, while southbound vessels were unaffected.
International news agencies also stated that the wreckage was discovered by a salvage team following the disaster on Saturday. According to the Suez Canal Authority, the tugboat is being salvaged, with buoys showing its location and allowing ships to pass in the meantime.
The Authority’s chairman, Osama Rabie stated that, the tanker Chinagas Legend is docked in Port Said pending the completion of accident-related procedures. Luckily, the tanker was not damaged during the collision.
