As Hurricane Dorian is moving from Bahamas to Florida's coast, the USCG is supporting the Bahamian National Emergency Management Agency and the Royal Bahamian Defence Force having deployed four helicopter aircrews to help with the search and rescue operations. USCG informs that they have already conducted 18 search and rescue operations and have saved more than 110 people.

Effective 8 a.m. Monday, the US Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) set port condition Yankee for the Port of Jacksonville and Fernandina and all other terminals and facilities due to the expectation of sustained gale force winds of generated by Hurricane Dorian that is expected to land in the area by Wednesday.

In light of the approaching Hurricane Dorian and the potential of causing extensive flooding and erosion along the Carolina and Georgia coasts, scientists from the US Geological Survey are in a hurry to install a minimum of 150 storm-tide sensors that will help them closely monitor the hurricane's effects. 

At least five people were killed as the Hurricane Dorian pounded the Bahamas on Monday, causing vast floodings and evacuation of more than one million people in US coast. The US National Hurricane Center said the storm is still stationary just north of Grand Bahama Island.

Every county in Florida is now under a state of emergency as the state prepares for what may be the strongest hurricane to hit its east coast in nearly three decades. Specifically, at 105 mph, hurricane Dorian is considered as the strongest storm of the Atlantic hurricane season so far.

Cruise ships are changing routes in the last few days to avoid the Tropical Storm Dorian which is to affect the Caribbean. The storm is on track to hit the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, an island still struggling to recover after devastation of Hurricane Maria in 2017. 

Until the early 1950s, tropical storms and hurricanes were tracked by year and the order in which they occurred during that year. This used to create confusion and false rumors, for instance, when storm advisories broadcast from radio stations were mistaken for warnings concerning an entirely different storm located hundreds of miles away.

According to NOAA's National Hurricane Centres, the first hurricane of the season is expected to pass over the US Gulf of Mexico, and it is possible to make landfall in Louisiana or Texas.  The hurricane is expected to pass through the centre of America's oil and gas industry.

The US Coast Guard issued its reporting requirements for the upcoming hurricane season at the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf, requesting that operators of all manned facilities and MODUs report only when personnel were stranded onboard AND not able to evacuate due to extreme circumstances.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting ]a near-normal Atlantic hurricane season this year. This outlook expects a 40% chance of a near-normal season, a 30% chance of an above-normal season and a 30% chance of a below-normal season. The hurricane season officially extends from June 1 to November 30.
