Imtrade trading company offers IMO 2020 compliant fuel in the Russian far east from the early days on May. Specifically, the company sales 0.5% sulphur bunker fuel with 80cst viscosity on a delivered basis at the ports of Vladivostok, Nakhodka, Vostochnyi, Kozmino, Posyet, Zarubino.

Rolls-Royce is developing a new electronic monitoring system together with ZF to achieve maximum availability for ships, while keeping fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to a minimum. It will be tested by the Förde Reederei Seetouristik. From 2021, the system will make sure that fleet managers are able to operate their fleets as efficiently and as environmentally friendly as possible.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced improvements to its Green Connection Environmental Recognition Program, which sees vessels that comply with the highest environmental performance standards; The Panama Canal reduces fuel consumption and emissions depending on the travelling distance and the capacity offered.

The video, issued by Stena Line, shows how the Captain and crew onboard the cruise ferry 'Stena Scandinavica' are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reduce the fuel consumption on the Gothenburg – Kiel route, under a pilot study initiated back in September 2018. 

The huge sailing yacht 'Black Pearl' made headlines in recent months, not only for claiming the title of the largest sailing superyacht in the world, but also for featuring hybrid propulsion system and waste heat recovery. Analysts suggest the development of the Black Pearl reflects a growing trend for large yachts to be greener.

An evaluation by international tanker owner Stena Bulk revealed that the IMOIIMAX type of its 13 chemical vessels has been a success, both in terms of performance and business. An IMOIIMAX tanker has 18 separate tanks and is also characterised by high safety and low fuel consumption.

In its new Energy Outlook for 2019, BP foresees that carbon emissions increase further, with the power sector the main source of emissions. In the ET scenario, CO2 emissions from energy use continue to edge up through much of the Outlook, increasing by around 7% by 2040.

Blue Fin Tankers,  part of the Heidmar tanker pool, claims the marine fuel supplier delivered bunkers that were off-spec and not suitable to use. Mainly,  Blue Fin ordered 800 - 1,000 metric tonnes of IFO 180 cSt RMG 180 at $508 per ton to be delivered to the M/V Ridgebury Alina L  at the Mauritian port. The vessel was under charter to Resource Marine Pte Ltd. for a voyage from Freeport, Bahamas to Singapore.

During the 2019 SMART4SEA Conference, Soren Vinther Hansen, COO, Vessel Performance Solutions, advised operators on how to structure a clear vessel performance management system, providing an overview of the systematic feedback loop needed for the different stakeholders involved in the performance management process.

A fleet of huge, new built oil tankers are scheduled to ship diesel out of East Asia. Five very big crude carriers, that ship approximately 2 million barrels of oil each, are for the time being placed in the seas of China's eastern and southern coasts. Two additional new-builds are to be added in the fleet. If all of the vessels were fully loaded, they would have what is currently held in Europe's key trading hub of the Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp ports.
