The Suez Canal Authority is considering expanding the southern section of the waterway where the container ship Ever Given became stranded, its chairman told Reuters on Tuesday.

After the re-floating of the Ever Given in the Suez Canal last week, the owners of the ship have declared a General Average.

All ships stranded by the grounding of the Ever Given in the Suez Canal in March have now passed through the canal.

Following the Suez Canal reopening, the Port of Rotterdam has initiated proactive consultation with relevant stakeholders (shipping companies, terminal operators, inland terminals, hinterland carriers) to determine how to handle the forecast surge in incoming vessels as smoothly as possible. 

The six-day blockage of the Suez Canal as well as its refloating highlighted the critical job done by tug and towage workers, says ITF.

The Standard Club issued an alert providing topical guidance on some of the many issues that the shipping world faces as a result of the grounding of the MV Ever Given in the Suez Canal on 23 March 2021.

Following EVERGREEN statement on March 29, that Ever Given was successfully refloated within the Suez Canal at approximately 15:00 local time, the vessel will now head to the Great Bitter Lake in Egypt for a full inspection and experts will seek to investigate what caused the grounding.

The Ever Given has been “successfully refloated” on the Suez Canal, according to Inchcape Shipping Services, a week after it ran aground in high winds blocking one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Don Cockrill, Maritime Pilotage Consultant, highlights that speculation as to the cause of the now infamous Suez Canal grounding of Ever Given is inappropriate and unproductive.
