MSC may surpass Maersk as biggest ocean carrier by capacity

MSC confirmed the order of five 23,000 TEU ULCVs from the South Korean Daewoo yard, a step that will take the Geneva-based carrier’s orderbook to 16 vessels, for a massive 305,352 TEU. This new order is reportedly in line with MSC’s order for 11 ships made in 2017.

Korean shipbuilders set higher order targets for 2018

South Korean shipyards, including HHI, SHI, and DSME, have set higher order goals for 2018, in line with expectations for an overall improvement in the shipbuilding sector. The country’s shipbuilding industry is hit by a decrease in new orders in the last years, as a result from global economic downturn.

Samsung Heavy wins six of MSC container giants order

South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries has confirmed the signing of a USD968 million contract with the Mediterranean Shipping Company, for the construction of six 22,000 TEU ships, to be the world’s largest container vessels, upon delivery by the end of 2019.

MSC orders 22,000 TEU container ships to DSME

Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company has ordered eleven 22,000-TEU container ships from South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. The news comes exactly after French CMA CGM confirmed orders for nine 22,000-TEUs container ships at two Chinese shipyards.

HMM in talks with DSME over five VLCCs

Hyundai Merchant Marine, South Korea’s largest shipbuilder, is in discussion with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, over the construction of five very large crude carriers. Further, HMM revealed plans to spend USD 162 million to acquire two large container ships.

DSME to launch first export submarine

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has launched a submarine, which succeeded in winning orders abroad for the first time in Korea.
