India has joined the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment, as Observer, with the aim to cooperate with other states on reducing maritime piracy in the Indian Ocean region. 

As part of its efforts to help African countries improve the sustainability of their maritime sectors and their blue economies, IMO has participated in two major annual maritime security exercises in Djibouti and in Maputo, Mozambique, to help support their initiatives.

IMO provides training to countries in the west Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden on managing insecurity in the maritime domain in a regional workshop at the Djibouti Regional Training Centre during 9-13 December.

Oman has become the 16th state to sign the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct, the instrument developed and adopted by countries in the Western Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden to repress piracy and armed robbery against ships operating in the region.

Mauritius has become the 15th signatory to the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct, the instrument developed and adopted by countries in the Western Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden focused on repressing piracy and armed robbery against ships operating in the region.

Somalia has become the 14th signatory to the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct. The Amendment broadened the scope of the Djibouti Code, covering measures for suppressing a range of illicit activities, including piracy, arms trafficking, trafficking in narcotics, human trafficking, human smuggling etc.

IMO announced that Kenya has become the 13th country to sign the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct. The Code is an instrument developed and adopted by countries in the Western Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden, in repressing piracy and armed robbery against ships operating in that region.

The key IMO instrument helping to repress piracy and armed robbery against ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, called "the Djibouti Code of Conduct" is part of discussions at an international conference in Morocco, IMO informed.
