The Kingdom of Bahrain has signed the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC-JA), a regional initiative to combat piracy, armed robbery against ships and other illicit maritime activities in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden. 

Port facility personnel with designated security duties in Djibouti have received training to identify potential security threats and take action to prevent risks to port facilities in the Red Sea area. 

Signatory States to the revised Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy, armed robbery against ships and illicit maritime activity in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden Area, also known as the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC) 2017, have agreed the next steps to enhance implementation of the amended code.

Key officials from Kenyan Government Ministries and Agencies responsible for maritime security gathered to review and finalize the country’s draft National Maritime Security Risk Register. 

Signatory States to the revised Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy, armed robbery against ships and illicit maritime activity in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden Area, known as the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct 2017, have agreed a raft of measures to combat new and emerging threats to maritime security.

South Africa became the 17th signatory to the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC), as an effort to combat illicit marine activity.

The IMO announced the launch of a new website www.dcoc.org aimed at sharing information on the implementation of the Djibouti Code of Conduct. The platform is expected to play a significant part in enhancing regional cooperation in countering piracy and other illicit maritime activities. 

India has joined the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment, as Observer, with the aim to cooperate with other states on reducing maritime piracy in the Indian Ocean region. 

As part of its efforts to help African countries improve the sustainability of their maritime sectors and their blue economies, IMO has participated in two major annual maritime security exercises in Djibouti and in Maputo, Mozambique, to help support their initiatives.

IMO provides training to countries in the west Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden on managing insecurity in the maritime domain in a regional workshop at the Djibouti Regional Training Centre during 9-13 December.
