Port of Amsterdam is working to improve its facilities and services. From 1 September 2020, barges with trackers are able to take berth in specially designated berth areas.

USCG recently gave its regulatory approval and design basis acceptance to the Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport (Q-LNG), for its two variants construction. Gaining this approval, the marine transportation company will have the ability to move forward with its construction plans. 

On Wednesday 13 February, the US Coast Guard along with several local authorities responded to a multi-barge breakaway close to the Upper Mississippi River. Specifically, the breakaway occurred near mile markers 176 and 177 of the river.

Officials are trying to refloat a barge that ran aground, damaging its hull on Quadra Island, British Columbia, on November 9. As Transport Canada informed, it is now considering a salvage plan, and when the barge is refloated, it will be towed to a facility near Campbell River for repairs.

Two new landing barges are launching in order to assist the work of Australia’s new icebreaker RSV Nuyina. The barges will be based onbroad the RSV Nuyina, along with three tenders to transfer the personnel and a scientific research tender. 

The US Coast Guard informed that it is responding after at least two barges struck the I-10 San Jacinto River Bridge near Channelview, Texas, on Friday, September 20. Namely, nine barges broke away from the moorings. At least two barges hit the bridge, which sustained significant damage to its concrete pilings.

Responders with the US Coast Guard San Jacinto River Fleet Unified Command used a drone to conduct initial damage assessments of the I-10 bridge that at least two barges struck Friday. Nine barges broke away from their moorings at the San Jacinto River Fleet in Houston, on 20 September.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued an investigation report on a barge breakaway incident in the Ohio River which caused an estimated $12.5 million damage and an unknown release of coal and cement into the water. 

Two unmanned barges broke loose Wednesday night from their mooring site in the Port of Muskogee, staying adrift for several hours on the swollen Arkansas River, Oklahoma, before they crashed into a dam, Thursday. The barges were carrying about 3,800 pounds of phosphate fertilizer between them.
