LNG major Shell recently inked a deal to supply carbon-neutral liquiefied natural gas cargoes to CNOOC Gas & Power Group, a unit of China National Offshore Oil Corporation.
Shell stated that these planned shipments will be the first carbon-neutral LNG cargoes to Chinese Mainland.
The carbon neutral cargoes means that all emissions coming from exploration and production of the natural gas are offset by credits from a variety of nature-based projects. The projects include afforestation projects from Qinghai and Xinjiang provinces in China, the company said.
It is reported that the cargoes will provide enough energy to power nearly 300,000 homes for a full year.
