The Valenciaport joined the World Ports Climate Action Programme (WPCAP), in line with the global efforts to cut carbon emissions.
By joining the WPCAP, the port will be able to maintain synergies of collaboration with the International Association of Ports and Terminals (IAPH).
In a statement, the port comments that
Valenciaport has been valued for its commitment and the actions of the port community against climate change to add synergies with other world ports.
Overall, the WPCAP was created with the main objective of reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality. The President of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Aurelio Martinez, additionally explained that this programme is an action in which the 12 leading ports of the world are participating and which they have invited them to take part in as a recognition of their management in sustainability in recent years in order to launch a joint climate action programme.
Mr. Martinez commented that
It is an honour to be part of this initiative because it highlights the work we have been carrying out for many years together with the port community to carry out environmental actions that contribute to improving the quality of life of our surroundings and the agents involved in port activity.
The members of WPACP have created a programme of climate measures that aims five areas:
- Increasing the efficiency of logistics chains through the development
- Harmonization of digital tools
- Commitment to promote the common approach of public policies on the reduction of emissions within large geographical areas.
- Accelerate the development of renewable energies for ships or other zero emission alternatives in the docks and the development of alternative fuels for ships, whose emissions are at least 50% lower than those generated by current fuels,
- Defend the decarbonization of port terminals.
